The mission of the Network is to help increase the capacity in every state to establish effective, sustainable, and affordable cessation services to help tobacco users quit and stay quit. We seek to do this by linking state and national cessation leaders together to share information, resources and strategies, thereby enabling programs in each state to become more comprehensive and successful.
 

 


**NEW** 2008 Clinical Practice Guideline Update: Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence. Download the 2008 update to this important new guideline for tobacco cessation. You can also visit http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/tobacco for the updated Clinicians Guide and stop smoking materials.

ANNOUNCING the publication of the BEA Resource Guide and Resource Guide Summary. The 61-page RESOURCE GUIDE has been developed to assist a variety of health professionals providing tobacco cessation services for people with mental illness and substance use disorders. The Guide includes existing research, expert professional advice, and practical information for adapting their tobacco cessation programs and services. The 10-page RESOURCE GUIDE SUMMARY presents the highlights and “At-A-Glance” summary pages.

April 3: The problem of tobacco use and MI/SUD: Barriers and challenges for treating these populations, spectrum of illness that people seeking treatment are likely to have and how it affects their treatment, why attention to treatment for these populations is so urgent, what the BEA project has found about treatment for people with MI/SUD.
